▹▹ Personality

Alignment: True Neutral

Meyers/Briggs Personality Type: ISTP - The Virtuoso
People with an ISTP personality type tend to be curious, pragmatic, and confident in their behavior. They are unpredictable and spontaneous, but are often quiet, preferring to think and process information internally.
(Description taken from here: www.crystalknows.com/myers-bri…)

Determined | Loyal | Dogmatic | Childish | Insecure | Impetuous | Volatile

Determined: having made a firm decision and being resolved not to change it

"Just got to keep burning."
Sophia is very stubborn but the kind of stubborn that gets stuff done.  She doesn't mind getting dirty if it means that she can prove herself.
Loyal: giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or institution
"Whatever you need, I am yours."
Loyalty is a virtue that Sophia takes very seriously.  Who and what she dedicates her loyalty is extremely limited but she'd lay down her life for them without question.

Dogmatic:  inclined to lay down principles as incontrovertibly true

"You are all wrong!"
When Sophia believes in something, she absolutely internalizes it.  Though she was probably already  inclined to be dogmatic naturally, the chauvinistic ways of her fallen nation and the black and white morality of a military mindset given to her by the Dragon Hoplites, heightened and solidified this way of thinking.  The prejudices commonly shared among her people are therefore very prominent in Sophia, the big one being "Those without scales are inherently lesser beings".

Immature: not fully developed

"This is so unfair!"
Despite her best efforts and the passing of a 1000 years, Soph is definitely still an dumb teenager.  Emotions are high and rational is low. She's easily bored, prone to jealousy, and takes very unnecessary risks on the daily.  Also, she's not one to tell jokes (she's too cool for that) but her sense of humor is like that of a 12 year old (it's shit).

Insecure:  not confident or assured; uncertain and anxious

"Like I care what she said. What was it she said?"
A piece of Sophia that falls under her immaturity but runs a bit deeper, is her insecurity.  Sophia has an undeniable impulse to make those she admires like her which puts her in the position to be easily taken advantage of, so it's a good thing her stars are few and far between.  Soph also doesn't respond well to criticism and gets very defensive.  But she can't avoid the harsh critiques she gives herself.
Impetuous: acting or done quickly and without thought or care
"I will kick it."
Another one that could be paired with immaturity but deserves it's own highlight, is Sophia's impetuous nature.  As stated before, this kirin's reasoning sucks, so Soph depends mostly on instinct to help her out.  Whether those instincts are good or bad is sort of a crap shoot and is pretty much guaranteed to end up in some sort of physical altercation.  Soph has no qualms about throwing the first punch.
Volatile: liable to change rapidly and unpredictably, esp. for the worse
"Get the hell away from me!!"
This is a new trait, one that was brought out by Sophia's unexpected second chance at life.  She's confused and scared but refuses to show vulnerability to strangers so she's covering it up with aggression.
Other Notes:
  • Though it is something she's not particularly proud of, Sophia is definitely someone who is lead more on emotion than logic.
  • Sophia is most comfortable and proud when she is working under someone she admires.
          Likes:
    • Adventure
    • Winning
    • Sparring
    • Romance clichés
    • Shiny things
          Dislikes:
    • Failure
    • Doing petty errand stuff
    • Being told she can't do something
    • kids
    Drive:
Figure out what the hell is going on.

▹▹ History

To appreciate much of who Sophia is, it’s essential to understand that she grew up in a different world than the one she currently exists in.  The Hireath Sophia was was brought into was far different than the one that exists today.  The Hireath she came from was new and where powerful gods walked among mortals. Horse, unicorn, pegasus, hipppocampi, and kirin all lived within their own herds, under their own gods, and existed within their own brand of utopia.  Times were peaceful and glorious as the individual herds grew into the world that was given to them, but as time would tell, isolation and the bond between god and creation, would breed corruption.

0-10:

From the beginning, Sophia was a hyperactive child.  Even for three parents, a mother and two fathers, she was unusually hard to control.  She had to be supervised at all times, lest she wander off and get into trouble.  The little kirin had a reputation for picking fights and being brazenly honest to anyone she spoke to.  To keep her rambunctious child in check, her mother, Maybel, took her to work.  As master seamstress for the royal family, Maybel worked in the palace and rubbed shoulders with many officials within the herd.  Sophia got to grow up among the King’s children and Maybel prayed to Ignacio that they’d have some influence on her daughter.  However, her wishes would sadly go unanswered.

Sophia greatly enjoyed her time in the palace, most of all, the times she was able to be in the same room as King Soliel, whom she greatly admired.  She was drawn to the King’s splendor and power.  She longed for her approval, but was never inspired to learn appropriate behavior to do so.  Instead, her longing turned to envy directed at the King’s children, especially Princess Edna, whose position Sophia saw as one that could have been hers if she had been born under different circumstances.  A terrible fight broke out between the two of them and Sophia’s mother, outraged and severely embarrassed, never took her to the palace again.  Instead, Sophia would be passed onto her father and Maybel’s first husband, Dario.

Dario was a quiet but stern man who ran the family’s forge.  Under his supervision, Sophia was expected to work and work hard.  It was a drastic change from her days at the palace, and Sophia hated every minute of it.  Crafting weapons was a tedious and mundane job that fit the likes of her boring father but not for her.  Sophia wanted something more grandiose, something that she thought would catch the King’s attention.

Her papa,
Absolum, was someone people took notice of.  The boisterous and fun loving kirin was Sophia’s obvious favorite out of her three parental guardians.  Absolum was a dragon hoplite, a far cooler job than a blacksmith or seamstress in Sophia’s opinion. ( Not to mention the guilt he had from hardly ever being home caused Absolum to spoil his child rotten when he was. )  On one of his trips home from Mt Oriel, Sophia begged Absolum to take her with him so that she wouldn't have to work with Dario anymore.  Dario was rightfully offended by his daughter’s blatant lack of respect in his craft but supported the idea of sending her with his husband to become a hoplite.  Sophia’s time at the forge had damaged business and the little tyrant’s attitude was driving away customers. Though Absolum eventually warmed up to the idea of his small child wanting to become a soldier, he didn’t have the authority to just bring his daughter into training. The best he could do was put in a good word for her.  Maybel was indifferent to the whole discussion.  After Sophia’s shameful behavior at the palace, she had lost faith in her daughter’s capabilities and outwardly told Sophia she was not cut out to be a dragon hoplite.  However, her mother’s disapproval only strengthened Sophia’s conviction.

The recruiters eventually did come, following
Absolum’s suggestion.  They weren’t that all impressed by the fiery, little filly, but they decided they would take a chance on her since she was Absolum’s. At last, Sophia felt like she was on the path to becoming someone she thought was worthy of herself and she was eager to shove it in every face who doubted her.

10-15:
Hoplite training was far harder than Sophia could have ever expected and hoplite instructor Absolum, was far different than the papa Abe she knew at home. There was no leniency on Mt Oriel, no favoritism, nor room for misbehaved children.  If Sophia screwed up or acted out here, she would be sent home and she couldn’t have that.  Her mother couldn’t have that over her. She wouldn’t let her win.

Sophia struggled through her training and her place at the bottom of the class made it hard for her to make friends, but despite the odds, she still managed to stay in the program.  The strict routine wared  down the rowdy child and left a teen who was disciplined and humble.  At thirteen, Sophia was given her dragon, whom she promptly named him Coal, after the sooty scales that covered his body. The brat that Sophia was, reincarnated itself into a rapidly growing, fire-breathing tank of a lizard.  All the hardship Sophia had given her parents was delivered back to her tenfold.  Coal was near impossible to control, and even went as far as biting his partner’s tail off.  There was no hope that the pair would ever be functional but, through some miracle, Sophia and Coal did forge some sort of synergy.

Shortly after their improved performance, Ignacio granted Sophia her first blessing, lighting manipulation, for her accomplishments.  That day was the happiest she had ever felt in her life. She was recognized by her god and God was proud of her. Finally, she felt like she was doing something right.

To celebrate,
Absolum and Sophia travel home to Old Valore (which at that time was just ‘Valore’) so that they could participate in the summer festival.  Hoplite training made her unrecognizable to nearly everyone who knew her as a child and they were impressed by the change.  The neighborhood’s little purple monster had grown up into a nice young kirin who no longer just wanted to be better for the sake of being better than others but to be better so that she could do good.  The entire city was invited to come celebrate at the palace and it was there that Sophia once again ran into Edna.

Years prior, Sophia would said she hated the princess, but many things had changed since then.  She understood her mother’s embarrassment for that incident (among others) all that time ago and wanted to make amends.  Through the colorful ocean of scales and antlers, Sophia searched for Edna until she found her.  ‘She’s beautiful’ was the first thought that came to her when she did.  The second was ‘Holy shit, I’m such an idiot.’

It took every bit every bit of courage for Sophia to muster out an awkward apology but she was glad she did it.  Edna forgave her and the two started a close friendship that quickly turned into a relationship.  When Sophia returned to Mt Oriel to finish her training the two kept in touch through letters.

16-17:

Sophia’s relationship with Edna filled her with new vigor to finish her training and make something of herself.  She wanted to come back to her and make her proud. But Sophia wouldn’t have a chance to do either of those.

A dark and hungry flame took root in Ignacio’s heart and from there it spread to his children.  The God’s War soon followed and no kirin could escape the call to battle.

Sophia fell at the feet of the resurrected Arcane god shortly after Coal was obliterated by a beam of Argus’s powerful magic.  The shock of her and her dragon’s broken bond caused Sophia to stumble into fissures of the crumbling earth.  She died in darkness and she stayed in darkness for 1000 years until the light came to take her back.

...

Present (17+):
Sophia’s currently running around in Briem’s Labyrinth scared out of her mind.  She remembers nothing but her name and that she should be dead.
