Idelisa Kai, was a hippocampus from an old, upstanding, Talori Bloodline. Her family presented her as a gift to the reigning Talori Emperor. She was well known as an exquisite example of native beauty in her youth and quickly became a favorite of His Majesty. She reveled in his attention and held herself above the other concubines. Her status meant everything to her. Her only daughter, Nagisa, was the only thing that meant more.

Idelisa was very strict and controlling when raising her daughter, but she liked to believe it was in Nagisa's best interest. It was that same thinking that had her push Nagisa into an arranged marriage, because of course, the only way for a mare to hold social status was through her husband.

When the Emperor died, Idelisa was left with nothing. She was alone in a house full of other former concubines who hated her, her daughter was grown, and her beauty no longer youthful. Feeling she had nothing left to live for, Idelisa stopped eating, fell ill, and died.
