i used to work in AP clay/scultpure class in high school. if you want his antlers to be really smooth, then wear a mask, lay out a sheet, and sand them down gently when it is at the bone-dry stage. Thats what i did to make my teapot super smooth xD as long as you move slowly, it doesnt make a disaster mess.
